Platelet-rich plasma therapy is a newer therapy in different corners of artificial reproductive techniques. Platelet-rich plasma is an extract from the blood which has a high concentration of platelet and different growth factors which help in tissue healing and clotting.

Preparation

It is prepared from the extraction of patients’ own blood which contains platelets a minimum of 4 to 5 times than normal blood. It activates the secretion of vascular endometrial growth factor transforming growth factor platelet-derived growth factors which helps in endometrial proliferation and differentiation and promotes extracellular Matrix accumulation.

Different Uses:

1. Uterine Lining Improvement

Successful implantation needs a minimal endometrial thickness of 7 mm. Thin endometrium often becomes a cause for cycle cancellation or implantation failure. Platelet-rich plasma when used in HRT  cycles helps in regaining endometrial thickness of more than 7 mm within 72 hours of installation. After preparation, it is directly injected into the uterine cavity.

2. Ovarian Rejuvenation

It is typically done after the menstruation cycle gets over. It is directly injected into the ovary especially in the ovarian stroma under usg guidance with the help of an ovum pick-up needle. For consecutive to 2 to 3  cycles of intraovarian PRP therapy helps in the improvement of oocyte quality and hence improves the IVF outcome.
