INTRA UTERINE INSEMINATION (IUI)

IUI SERVICE IN RENEW HEALTHCARE

At Renew Healthcare, we not only start the IUI procedure from the second/third day of the menstrual cycle but we prepare the female partner before starting the cycle to provide the best results. We start doing baseline scans from the second/third day of her menstrual cycle to check her antral follicle count (AFC) & whether she has any cyst which should not be there. If she has any, then either we cancel the cycle or we put her on some medicines for the cyst to disappear before her next cycle starts.

We also advise the male partner to get a semen analysis done to be sure that we get a good sperm count on the day of IUI. After seeing the Day 2/3 scan, we advise the injections & their dosage & monitor the growth of follicles in folliculometry within 2-3 days as decided by the doctor. By doing this, we try to measure the exact size of the dominant follicle to decide the right time for IUI to give the best success rate. Folliculometry with a few days of interval also prevents pre-mature ovulation or whether the dominant follicle becomes a hemorrhagic cyst.

The male partner is advised either to ejaculate by masturbation / have intercourse before 48 hours of the IUI procedure so that we get a good sperm count on the day of the procedure. As the eggs mature, we sometimes advise a few hormonal blood tests like E2, LH & Progesterone to the female partner before administering the Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) Injection when the ovulation is already imminent. After the HCG shot, the couple is advised to come the next day at the earliest for follicular monitoring to check whether she has ovulated or not. If ovulation has happened, then we immediately send the male partner for semen collection & the female partner is advised to get her urinary bladder full so that the IUI procedure is easier for her & us both. The sample usually takes 45-60minutes to be ready. Once it is ready, the female partner is taken to the IUI room under the proper guidance of the nurses. We also make sure that she feels comfortable at that moment. Sometimes we do the IUI under USG guidance. The respective doctor remains present during the procedure & she/he performs the IUI with utmost hygiene & ease. Sometimes, the couple is advised IUI twice in one cycle to increase the chances of pregnancy. In that case, one set of IUI is performed before ovulation happens within 24 hours of the trigger shot & another after ovulation has occurred i.e within 48 hours of the trigger shot. After 18 days of the procedure, the couple is advised for a home pregnancy kit test and also we put her on progesterone & Aspirin. The entire procedure is under the proper guidance of our clinical head Dr. Rajeev Agarwal & the respective In House Consultant.
